There are a couple of really cool events coming up for area designers. Later this month, on Thursday, September 24, designer and personal hero Art Chantry will be paying a visit to Cleveland. (Nice graphic, Mikey!) Some more information:
Rock poster legend Art Chantry's works are gritty, inventive and sometimes startling. For Chantry, poster design is folk art and his approach: low-tech. Chantry is known for subculture posters and album covers he designed for Nirvana, Hole and The Sonics which rivals the world's best graphic design. But he is equally admired for his compelling logo design, and his creative talent has been pursued by corporations such as Nike, Microsoft and Coca-Cola. You'll want to hear what this iconic graphic designer has to say about delivering a loud, memorable, visual message.
Hell yeah! Also, Lizzy Lee, a good friend and fellow designer, someone I first met while she worked for the Cleveland Museum of Art and is now part of design collaborative Rini Uva Lee, is speaking this Friday, September 11, at the Cleveland Institute of Art. Details:

Free and open to the publicThis talk is about fame, love, fear, and graphic design - really it's about 11 years of a graphic designer's life working in NYC design firms, Philadelphia ad agencies, a museum in Cleveland, and finally for herself.
About Lizzy Lee: Lizzy loves working and playing, hidden behind the scenes as a graphic designer. After receiving her BFA in communication design from Parsons School of Design in 1998, Lizzy has been a designer and art director in the fields of design, advertising, and branding for such notable clients as The New York Times, Martha Stewart, The Gap, and Smart Car, with agencies including; Doyle Partners, Number Seventeen, Gyro Advertising, and Desgrippes Gobé. In 2006, she moved from NYC to Cleveland with her family where she worked as the Exhibition Graphic Designer for the Cleveland Museum of Art. In 2009, she started Rini Uva Lee, a collaborative design partnership with fellow designer and educator, Danielle Rini Uva. RUL's client list includes the Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland Public Art, Cleveland Institute of Art, and the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland.
Check it out! And here's the cool poster:
